Jane came to see me after being referred by a mutual friend; she had been struggling with some health issues and as a result was feeling very 'flat', unlike her usual positive self and was concerned about her future and her purpose going forward.
Jane and I met every 2 weeks to discuss her feelings and thoughts and I used talking therapy to allow Jane really say what she needed to say; we worked through several different exercises and techniques that allowed Jane to really connect with herself, to work through blockers holding her back from moving forward and finally, she found the diamonds within. "I approached Ali because this was a fairly last minute thing and having known Ali for sometime now, I know that she is great in a crisis and always happy to roll her sleeves up and get involved, especially if for the good of others. In this time of chaos and uncertainty, I felt like the wider M&S Marketing team would really benefit from some mindfulness and meditation. In addition to the personal benefits that these sessions bring, I wanted the team to know that their wellbeing is important to them and us, so holding this session as part of a wider meeting which also focussed on trading results and communications plans would highlight the message that it’s important to take time for yourself and also that we (the leadership) care about them as people. Having briefed Ali on this I knew she would pitch this perfectly, and she did. It is fair to say the feedback from colleagues was astounding. I received so many emails thanking me for setting the session up, it was clear that people really needed it. In actual fact the session was so successful we have decided to partner with Ali more formally and as of today she will be leading her own mini-series on the M&S Facebook and Instagram accounts, leading guided meditation and mindfulness sessions to over 7m people! Prior to this, I had used Ali as a personal health and happiness coach in 2019 for a 6 month period. Throughout this time we tackled some difficult issues but even so, I’d very much look forward to our sessions because they always felt conversational and never really like hard work.
